FC Arsenal - The Gunners

Postby Danomite » Mon 2. Jun 2008, 13:45

this season arsenal seems to be the top team of the english premiere league. people have doubted that when henry left for barca in the summer, but somehow his departure might have set the spirit free. the young players took over the pressure and somehow managed to kick in. here is the place to talk about the most unenglish club in the english premiere league LOL

QUOTE
Arsenal Football Club (also known as Arsenal, The Arsenal or The Gunners) are an English professional football club based in Holloway, North London. They play in the Premier League and are one of the most successful clubs in English football, having won thirteen First Division and Premier League titles and ten FA Cups.

Arsenal were founded in 1886, though they won their first major trophies in the 1930s, with five League Championship titles and two FA Cups. After a lean period in the post-war years they became only the second club of the 20th century to win the Double in 1970–71, and during the past twenty years they have been one of the most successful clubs in English football — in this time Arsenal won two further Doubles, the Premier League in 2003–04 unbeaten, and in 2005–06 became the first London club to reach the UEFA Champions League final.

The club's colours have traditionally been red and white, although these have evolved through history. Similarly, the club have changed location over time; the team were initially founded in Woolwich, south-east London, but in 1913 they moved north across the city to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury. In 2006 they made a less drastic move to their current home, the Emirates Stadium in nearby Holloway.

Arsenal have a large and diverse fanbase, who hold a string of long-standing rivalries with several other clubs; the most notable of these is with neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, with whom they regularly contest the North London derby. Arsenal are one of the richest clubs in English football (worth over £600m as of 2007), and thanks to their stature, have regularly featured in portrayals of football in British culture. There is also a highly successful ladies team, Arsenal LFC, affiliated with the club.

here is a full list of all the current players:

They have surprised me this season, didn't see coming how good they can be without Henry. I mean, he was Arsenal.
Credit to them, the new players fit it in well and the team works good together. I'm not sure whether it will be enough for a trophy yet, wouldn't be surprised about it anyway.

yeah, same here. i never thought they´d be doing any good. for sure not THAT good. then again, fabregas had shown some quality before, hleb, one of the most underrated players ever. rosicky, much more space in the team now. i guess henry blocked them a little. just like he blocks braca now.

a bit of a sad story with lehmann in london really. i wonder when wenger decided that he is suddenly and all out of nowhere shit. those bloopers people keep talking about used to happen a lot more often before and he was never doubted as number one. oh well.

One trophy chance wasted, three more to go.
They should be good enough to see off Newcastle this weekend in the FA Cup though.

But only if Wenger does not do the same stupid mistake he did vs Spurs. He´ll probably think its easy to beat Newcastle. But Newcastle are getting better slowly and I think a victory over Arsenal would give the Toon Army a big boost. Who knows?

Newcastle held Arsenal to a goalless draw before the break.
Afterwards Arsenal have beaten them comfortably anyway.
Click here for the match report.

That's not a surprise at all really.

Now its Arsenals time to prove that they can stay on top for a longer time. Pushing United into the chasing role will give them a little phsycological move ahead.

Now is the time they need to win games and stay ahead of United, because they will work their asses off. We all know that Sir Alex wants this title and so does the team. He will push them to do their bests. Can Arsenal handle that pressure?

It should be interesting with the CL games coming along.

Arsenal can handle the pressure, I'm afraid.
The last 2 matchdays went perfect for them and I think the 5 point gap will give them a big lift. I can see them win the league now, and I have to admit that I wouldn't have expected that before the season.

I agree Johnny. Arsenal can go to Anfield and win there for sure.
I just wonder if their current not so good form will let them down.
Arsenal are very dangerous even when they are not on form so Liverpool better have a good game, otherwise Arsenal might punish them.

Arsenal tend to be really lucky when they have a little cirsis. Like they don´t play beautiful, but they win by a last minute goal. I would not be too relaxt if I was Benitez. But all is possible with Liverpool.
